The emission of photons can take place only in three ways:

  1. Excited subatomic particles fall from an excited state back to a lower-energy state and emit photons in the process. (Photons and body temperature)
  2. Moving subatomic particles are deflected and slowed down in an external magnetic field, emitting photons. (Cause of the Lorentz force)
  3. Particle-antiparticle annihilation.
