Superconducting materials are too brittle to be rolled or drawn.

They are therefore enclosed in rod bundles of copper rods and then rolled and drawn.

This creates filaments of the superconducting materials embedded in copper.

The manufacturing process suggests that there are no continuous superconducting connections along the superconducting coil.
